Jedna z nejlepších písní od Depeche Mode na albu Playing The Angel v původním znění od Roger McGuinna.
Tato píseň byla původně nahrána v roce 1930 Blind Willie Johnsonem. Byla jednou z prvních písní africkým a amerických zpěváků zpívajících náboženské písně z jeho 30 nahrávek. Při nahrávání této písně jeho žena, Angeline, zpívala zadní vokály.

Po 75 rokoch robiť prerábku? To sa ešte aj dá? A teraz odhliadam od toho, že napr. Husky pasiem či inú tradicionálku možno interpretovať aj po sto rokoch…
Bál som sa, že to Goráč vykradol ešte viac, než som čakal. Je to ešte v pohode. Inak by mali u mňa DM ďalší čierny bod….8/

john the revelator je apostol jan (podla toho ze napisal knihu zjavenie cili apokalypsu)... a takych piesni kde sa spomina musi byt spusta. na zaklade podobnej analogie by personal jesus bol remakeom vsetkych skladieb kde sa spomina jezis.

to samozřejmě neznamená že se na albu PTA nachází cover verze…

The song has been covered by numerous bands and musicians, including The Blues Brothers, Beck, John Mellencamp, Gov’t Mule, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, R.E.M., The White Stripes, Phil Keaggy and many others. There are songs of the same name by Depeche Mode and Dave Matthews Band, however they were merely inspired by this song and are not considered covers…..

dangerous: wikipediu pisu ludia, takze doslovne by som nebral vsetko, ako je to tam sformulovane. Takze ziadne “covered by Depeche Mode…”

to Gabriel: ale jistě, že wikipedii píší lidé, stejně jako ostatní encyklopedie či knihy proto žádnou nelze brát doslova…žert, pardon
věta “John The Revelator inspired by the traditional song of the same name” ..se nachází na obalu alba Playing The Angel.. Martin Gore se inspiroval touto lidovou skladbou…použil její strukturu nebo chcete-li slohu, aby tento oslavný tradicionál svým způsobem shodil…btw. Martin se skládáním JTR dost natrápil a skládal ji postupně...
a samozřejmě se nejedná o žádný cover..
